WELCOME!

ABOUT ME AND MY THERAPY PRACTICE

Are you a woman looking for counselling around a relationship or upsetting experience? Perhaps you are struggling with hurtful family issues or a relationship breakdown? Things like this might be leaving you feeling anxious, sad or stressed. You might feel you never get things right or that you just aren’t 'good enough'. If you are feeling stuck and wondering what to do next counselling can help, so please read on.

Counselling can help you to explore problems with your feelings and relationships. You can discover your needs and how to express them. You might be a people-pleaser, so establishing boundaries can be important too. I can help you with these things.

About me:

I have extensive experience working in GP practices, the NHS, education establishments as well as in private practice. I qualified with an Advanced Diploma in 2005 and have since completed many additional postgraduate qualifications and numerous shorter courses. I am happy to tell you more and provide a list. I have also worked in Higher Education, lecturing on a Mental Health Degree.

I am a qualified BACP registered therapist, have a DBS Certificate, and regular supervision for your safety.
I have professional indemnity insurance.

I do appreciate that it can be daunting trying to find a therapist and it is really important to find the right person so for this reason I offer a free introductory chat (up to 15 minutes) so we can get to know each other. And it doesn't commit you to work with me. Please get in touch, I would like to be able to help.

I HAVE AN INTEREST IN ISSUES AFFECTING WOMEN OF ALL AGES

  • young women setting out in life

  • women juggling career or the demands of young children or teens

  • dating

  • fertility issues

  • pregnancy loss

  • mid-life crisis

  • children leaving home to go to university

  • menopause

  • caring for elderly parents

You may be at a point in life where you are feeling overwhelmed, at crisis point or struggling with difficult emotions or experiences. Some things in life are too difficult to tackle alone.

You may want to look at past or present difficulties and struggles and their impact on your life and relationships today.

It is my belief that perhaps the most fundamental part of any therapeutic work involves establishing a collaborative relationship. The nature of this relationship varies because each individual is unique, but in all work carried out, I seek to build relationships based on mutual respect and trust and have a genuine interest in getting to know you and not just the difficulties they are currently facing.

I always offer you these conditions:

  • confidentiality

  • empathy

  • no judgement

  • respect

Linked to the women's issues listed above I also help with:

  • Anxiety

  • Low mood and sad feelings

  • Managing difficult situations

  • Work struggles

  • Disappointment and despair

  • Feelings of overwhelm around family or relationships

  • Low self-esteem

  • Divorce and separation

I use a variety of therapies to help and adapt the approach I use to suit each individual. If you would like to know more, I can tell you about these approaches when we meet and when I have an idea what is going on for you. Whilst friends and family can help in some situations, sometimes the involvement of a professional like me can help.

The first session:

We will probably have already spoken during the free introductory chat I offer. This is an opportunity for you to fill me in a little, discuss counselling and also get to know me. You are welcome to ask questions, and I might ask you a few too. Next, we arrange an appointment and this is the beginning of our work together. I will do all I can to put you at ease. I will ask some questions and we will talk together about what has brought you to therapy. This is all in the strictest confidence.

I work online, (Zoom appointments) and I have grown to love this way of providing therapy. The benefits of using technology to connect means you can have therapy wherever you can create a confidential space, and can be somewhere that is comfortable for you. Also, there is the convenience of not having to travel.

Types of therapy I use:

CBT, Creative therapy, Humanistic, Integrative, Neuro linguistic programming, Person centred, Relational, Solution focused brief therapy, Transactional analysis
